The Italian dream

We go on holiday to relax, to enjoy the beautiful things from a country, and to escape from our own worlds for a moment. But when we go on holiday, do we ever think about the problems from the country we go to? or do we only think about the white beaches, palmtrees and crystal clear oceans?

For this project, Jonna Bruinsma travelled to the south of Italy, one of her favorite parts in the world, to do research about the increasing ageing population in Italy. She followed young people from different ages to ask about their dreams and perspectives on the future. Do they still see a future in their country? Do they still have a dream? And is it possible to make this dream come true in Italy or do they have to go somewhere else?

Together with Illustrator Marieke Luthart she asked different people to express their opinions by drawing and writing. The final project consists of a combination between photography, film, illustration and text.
